Gatecrashers Jess and Stella pulled off what Gareth Stewart dubbed as the “Ultimate Grashcrash” by taking home the title of 2015 My Kitchen Rules New Zealand Champions and the grand prize of $100,000!

After 10 weeks, 10 Instant Restaurants, five cooking challenges, and five Sudden Death eliminations, the battle of the regions competition came to a neck-and-neck finish.

In tonight’s Grand Final, Wellington Besties, Jess and Stella, took on Auckland foodie friends, William and Zoe, in a five-hour cooking marathon where each team prepared and cooked five courses for a panel of judges and Semi-Final rivals in front of family and friends.

The bubbly blondes’ winning menu consisted of champagne crayfish, followed by paua tortellini, beef cheeks with horseradish mash, venison tenderloin with fennel and watercress, and a saffron-poached pear with dark chocolate mousse for dessert – a smart, sophisticated menu of decadent ingredients.

The judges commended the aspiring chefs for their ability to bring simplicity to perfection and their play on flavours, saying the dishes “brought my taste buds to life” and reflected their fun in the kitchen.

The pair who had never cooked a five course meal before were humbled to make the cut in the sought after final. “Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be in the Grand Final of My Kitchen Rules,” said Stella.

Scoring 55 out of 60 to beat William and Zoe’s 53, the girls struggled for words to describe their excitement.

“We’ve enjoyed every moment,” said Stella.

“We’ve learned so much, done some crazy challenges, met some amazing people. Coming in as the Gatecrashers was hard but I’m really glad we did it as well,” said Jess.

Their strategy to do what they love to do, have fun, and enjoy themselves certainly paid off during this life changing experience. Now they just need to decide what to do next.

“There are so many possibilities now,” said Stella,

“It’s going to change our lives,” said Jess. “We’ll finally be able to travel the world and taste all the food we’ve haven’t been able to yet, that’s our ultimate dream,” said Jess.

Gracious runners-up William and Zoe put up a strong fight, and whilst defeated, had nothing but good things to say about their experience and the competition.

“Being on MKR has been one of the most challenging, yet rewarding experiences I have ever had,” said Zoe. “Despite falling at the final hurdle, I am immensely proud of what Will and I have achieved. We’ve come out the other side as much better cooks and with some wonderful friends. Huge congratulations to Jess and Stella who were such incredible, deserving winners – you girls have done yourselves, your families and Wellington proud!”
