City Sisters Sent Packing

The second round of Instant Restaurants came to an end last night, with Auckland sisters Katrina and Natasha sent packing after hosting the final home-town Restaurant of MKR 2015.

The siblings from Auckland’s Remuera pulled out all the stops in a Gatsby-esque Restaurant they dubbed ‘Martini’ – after their favourite beverage.

Cool, calm and collected, the girls headed into the kitchen quietly confident that their sophisticated dishes would place them higher than Manawatu sisters Kimberley and Brooke who were anxiously sitting at the bottom of the leader board on 64 points.

The Auckland sisters opted for simplicity in their three-course menu which included an entrée of venison and beetroot, a main of beef and autumnal vegetables and panna cotta and raspberry for dessert.

However, while their presentation scooped up the judges' approval, the girls' understated menu also turned out to be under seasoned. “No salt is like a Lamborghini with no petrol,” said acclaimed chef and MKR judge Ben Bayly, further adding salt to the wound.

But, back at Kitchen HQ, the big-city sisters were left speechless when their overall score amounted to 60 – falling five points short of the score needed to remain safe.

“It’s been an amazing journey. We’ve definitely had a lot of fun and it’s been good to do it together. We’re still going to cook together. We love it – so why stop something good,” says make-up artist Natasha.

With the Instant Restaurants now complete, the competition changes course next week, starting with a demanding People’s Choice Challenge at Auckland’s Britomart ... but, there’s a shocking twist!
