Taranaki Pals Take The First Tumble

Taranaki mates Laurence and Paul were the first team sent packing from My Kitchen Rules NZ 2015 in a nail-biting elimination at Kitchen HQ tonight.

The sport enthusiast pals were the second team to host their Instant Restaurant, cooking a three-course menu showcasing local produce.

Their meal included an entrée of smoked eel with potato salad; a main of shin beef ragu with homemade pasta; and chocolate terrine with plum sorbet and macadamia praline for dessert.

Sitting in 4th place on the leaderboard with a total score of 64, the boys were feeling the heat heading into tonight’s final Instant Restaurant of Group One.

The tension at the dining table was rife as Otago mates Travis and Jeremy plated up a hearty southern feast for judges Ben Bayly and Gareth Stewart as well as their fellow contestants - everyone aware that tonight’s scoring would send either Laurence and Paul or Travis and Jeremy home.

But after a rollercoaster night in the kitchen, Otago meat-men Travis and Jeremy came out on top, securing a total scoring of 66 and scraping in two points ahead of the Taranaki sporting buddies.

Despite being the first team to be booted off, the boys took their results on the chin. “We can’t all be winners – not in this game,” said ex-Hurricane hooker Laurence.

“I think we’ll look back on this in time and have a good laugh around it. I loved our Instant Restaurant. We didn’t get the greatest score…but I was still pretty proud of the effort,” he added.

The battle of the regions continues tomorrow night in the mighty Waikato as childhood sweethearts Jay and Sarah step up to the plate in the first Instant Restaurant of Group Two.
